"Get over it."

No matter how you say it, no matter where you put the emphasis, whether whispered or accompanied by a warm smile - it always comes out the same. Uncaring, dismissive and condescending.
And it looked like trouble in Camp Obama. In this case, women trouble.
The kind that no silly, aren't-I-hip-fist-bump can make disappear. ABC news reported in a blog that during a meeting with members of the Congressional Black Caucus, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, said something to Sen. Barack Obama about his campaign needing to reach out to women who were disappointed that Hillary Clinton lost.

Obama agreed that there was a lot of work yet to do regarding healing the Democratic party.
Then, Rep. Yvette Clarke, D-N.Y., reported, Obama said (and I'm not putting it in quotes since this has been only reported by others, not quoted): However, I need to make a decision in the next few months as to how I manage that since I'm running against John McCain, which takes a lot of time.
If women take a moment to realize that on every issue important to women, John McCain is not in their corner, that would help them get over it.
Those last three words are the problem.
Get over it.
Like every person running for office, each word, each speech is set under a microscope, and Obama, who it appears was speaking off the cuff, just used a phrase that most of us use without thinking.
But the women who supported Clinton in her bid for the presidency are taking the hit hard.
"Licking their wounds" is how I've seen it reported on numerous blogs. There are already many Clinton supporters who are talking about supporting McCain.
Some are saying they just won't vote. Period. McCain's camp knows full well how important it is to woo the women who supported Clinton.
It's always about issues. Women, whether Democrat or Republic, working outside or inside the home, are concerned with the economy.
Not just the rising cost of a gallon of gas, but the equally rising cost of a gallon of milk. Women are concerned with the security of our nation and the war in Iraq.
Women want to be able to pay their bills and see a secure future for their children, a safe world.
Obama is right, he is running against John McCain, not Hillary Clinton. And he's right about McCain's position on issues important to many women (McCain said he would vote against an equal pay bill for women saying women "need education and training" rather than equal pay.)
McCain supports overturning Roe v. Wade, and voted no in 2005 to allocate $100 million to expand health care services that, according to Planned Parenthood, would help reduce teen pregnancies and abortions.
But women who supported Clinton need to stop licking their wounds and stop being so doggone sensitive.
It's over. It's done. Nice run. Time to move on.
Hillary Clinton is no longer a candidate for president. There will be other elections and people - men and women - who care about putting a woman in the White House.
But right now, the focus needs to be on this election and the two main candidates for the presidency, John McCain and Barack Obama.
Women are as varied as men in their opinions on how to solve the issues, and it's never been easy to figure out what women want, but women will have the opportunity to express their opinions in the voting booth.
